Welcome to the weekend and the 12th Saturday Share Day post of the year! I normally write a pretty extensive weekend sharing post. Last week, it was all smiles and rainbows leading up to Monday – International Happiness Day and the first day of spring!
All that happiness went south this week when I figured out my site was hacked. Some of the odd search terms I was seeing on my dashboard – like “essay on a village” weren’t people looking for my site. I wasn’t surprised by that but I also never thought of a hack!
I did a Google search of the terms and found a bunch of links tied to my site that I didn’t write. All of the “spammed” links redirected people to a paper/essay writing service. It definitely could have been something worse! I’m told this is called a “spam injection” hack. I’ll write a detailed post about it soon, but in an already busy week – it definitely tanked some of my plans!
Here is a slightly shorter version of the Saturday Share – on my newly cleaned, monitored, and secured website! Enjoy!
If you’ve ignored your accounts and changing your passwords or strengthening them (and you don’t have to be a blogger) – you’re at risk for a hack. This may not prevent a hack, but why take any chances? Check out this post by Zero Day Finance. It was written in response to the hack I was facing. And he knows a heck of a lot more about this than me!
James at Retirement Savvy wrote a great post this week about forgetting about your net worth when retirement planning. He suggests that net worth isn’t a good measure of how prepared you are for retirement. I’d agree it’s great to track net worth, but not depend on those numbers to make decisions! Join the great conversation on his blog.
James’ point is that multiple streams of income is key in creating a retirement plan. Sam over at Financial Samurai has a stream of income because he’s not afraid to get dirty to get rich! Whether it’s rental property maintenance or taking care of your own home or belongings, many times you can DIY and save big money. Remember, we own 16 toilets! We’d be sending plumbers on vacations if we didn’t get dirty sometimes!
And we can use all of the money we save to make some of our dreams come true! Tonya over at Budget and the Beach reminds us that dreaming isn’t just for millennials! I saw Back to the Future in the theater too! (OK – the drive in actually!) A dreaming Gen-X’er all the way!
Matt at the Resume Gap wrote my favorite post of the week. After a year on the road he explained that “there’s only one feeling I’d have about the decisions we’ve made: gratitude.” He also gave some really important advice – don’t wait. We’re taking that advice soon!
After the craziness of this week, I’ll end this share day with one more post from Felicity at Fetching Financial Freedom about Happiness…and Dogs! And what you can learn from them. What could be better than that? 😉
