It’s Saturday Share Day – Week #6
Welcome to the weekend! I missed out on hitting the gym this week because I came down with another cold, but it gave me more time to read some great blog posts! Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts on my last post – Would you work an extra 200 days for $200,000? I’ll share my final decision soon! I just wish there weren’t so many variables at play!
Here are 10 great posts from this week, in no particular order…
Generation Y Finance Guy wrote an important post about spending a great deal of money to support a family member suffering from addiction. It’s happening way too often in our society and it affects many more people than we would like to admit.
Pennies and Dollars talks about skipping DIY oil changes. I agreed because our trusted mechanic also does oil changes at a really low price and does a great check of our vehicles every time we bring them in. I wrote a post about making smart DIY decisions too (related to pool maintenance). It’s important to look at more than just the $$$ – your time matters too! And Bayalis is the Answer also shared a well-written post on 5 commandments of personal finance.
Physician on Fire had a guest post over at Financial Samurai this week on rejecting reasons not to retire early (in addition to his own great posts on his site!) And Chris Istace shared his thoughts on embracing life, not money. These types of posts really make me think as I head toward having to make a decision about working full-time next year!
Holly Johnson’s post about avoiding open houses like the plague caught my attention! She makes some excellent points in this post. I love looking at houses, but they can definitely make you want bigger and better! And Living Rich Cheaply is braver than us! Check out this post about buying an investment property sight unseen. Could you do that?
And finally, Valentine’s Day is next week! Our kids at school LOVE Valentine’s Day. Check out these great ideas from Mrs. Picky Pincher! She is WAY more creative than me. I fall more in the line with Our Frugal Escapades. Check out their post on not celebrating Valentine’s Day.
We’ll probably skip the actual “Valentine’s Day” gifting too. But tonight we’re going to work on our habit – Choose Happiness and Have Fun as we head out with some friends to enjoy some craft beer and music. We don’t need a special “day” for that!
Keep reading. Keep learning.
